Whenever I have a client who is interested in purchasing a home in a outlying area of the Phoenix Valley, I always suggest that they do a trial commute. It is important that they actually make the drive between the home that they are considering and their work during rush hour. It is only through this experience that they can truly appreciate what their daily commute will be like. That way they can see how long it really takes and also estimate their gas consumption.
I have seen many sellers make outrageous claims to prospective Buyers about commuting times. There is a condo development in East Fountain Hills that told one of my out-of-town clients that it was only 20 minutes to Sky Harbor Airport! Any one who lives in Phoenix or Scottsdale knows that the only way possible to make it from the Airport to Fountain Hills in 20 minutes is by helicopter!
