Many Buyers are dazzled by the extraordinary low cost of homes on the periphery of Phoenix. You can purchase a brand new basic 3 bedroom home for as little as the $120′s. Many of the rock bottom priced homes can be found in communities that are approximately an hour from the center of the city. At first glance these homes can seem like an amazing bargain. However, a home isn’t really a bargain if its location forces a household to devote an excessive amount of the family budget to gas, car maintenance and general transportation costs. This is an even greater factor to consider with the current price of gas rising daily. The amount of time you spend each day on the road is another consideration. The commute to work is only one of the trips you need to make daily. There may be a lack of basic conveniences such as restaurants, convenience stores, fast food, gas stations, department stores and grocery stores. You may have an excessive drive to reach any of those as well. Lastly you need to consider how bad the commute will be in 3 years, 5 years or 10 years. Phoenix has a huge annual influx of residents. More and more people are moving to the Valley every year. It is inevitable that traffic is just going to get worse. I am happy to show my clients homes on the periphery of Phoenix, but it is my duty as their Realtor to make sure they take these factors into consideration. Often Buyers come to the conclusion that life would be easier and more enjoyable in a home closer in to their work, family & friends. It is really a quality of life issue.
